September 2025:
The monsoon rains came to Maharashtra in a way it has not for decades. Marathwada, a region known for drought and parched fields, saw water pour relentlessly from the skies. Streams and rivers overflowed, embankments gave way, and villages that once prayed for rain are now submerged under its force. Dharashiv district has received 147.9% rainfall this season (June 1 to September 24, 2025). Bhum taluka has recorded 866 mm rainfall compared to its normal 562 mm causing flashfloods, damage and loss of infrastructure, agriculture and livestock.
Entire communities have been caught off-guard. More than 159 villages across six talukas of Dharashiv district are reeling from the floods. Homes have collapsed, fields lie ruined, roads have vanished, and families have been forced to flee with whatever they could carry.
The floods have upended lives and livelihoods across the region. Entire communities are struggling as homes lie in ruins, farmlands stand destroyed, and vital sources of income such as livestock are lost.
Families who were already living on the edge now face an uncertain future with no shelter, food, or means to rebuild. This is not just about water entering villages; it is about lives pushed into crisis and the urgent need for support to help people recover and stand on their feet again.
Families who had little to begin with are now left with nothing. Mothers are struggling to feed their children. Elderly people are living in makeshift shelters without privacy or sanitation. Farmers stare helplessly at fields they cannot harvest. Children are coping with fear and anxiety in temporary camps.
Water pipelines are broken. Electricity poles have fallen. Roads are cut off. Schools are shut. In some villages, people are stranded without clean water or food for days.
But we can change this. Together.
