| SAFE SCHOOLS |
| Thousands of children lose their lives in disasters every year. Why? Simply because their schools were not built properly? Or were not built high enough above the flood plains? Or were just ill equipped to manage even the most likely fire? The fragile bodies recovered from the wreckage of a fallen school often represent more than a human tragedy. They are evidence of needless ignorance that can be prevented. SEEDS school safety initiative is an endeavour to protect these young lives and provide them with a safe learning environment. This involves training children on life saving skills and effective response, strengthening school buildings to withstand natural disasters and developing school disaster management plans. SEEDS also engages in rebuilding schools affected by natural disasters and educating the local community on reducing risk. |

| SAFE HOSPITALS |
| Hospitals and health centres that serve as a community’s lifeline during normal times assume an even more significant role during emergencies. The price we pay for the failure of these facilities is much too high. In comparison, the cost of safeguarding them is tiny. SEEDS Hospital Safety Initiative ensures that hospitals remain standing, continuing to function and provide critical services during a disaster. Hospitals are armed with contingency plans and the workers trained to keep the network operational. SEEDS also engages the local community in this process. |
